These are the Sauce effects associated with the various card ranks; the deck includes two cards that give a quick reference to which Sauce corresponds to which rank.
Always Active:
Reverse Rank: If exactly three cards of the same rank are played on a trick, then the rank order is reversed for all subsequent tricks in that hand (i.e. 10 is low, 1 is high). If it happens again on another trick, the rank order reverses again.
1
Standard 1 – Short Change: After selecting the Sauce cards, deal the first twelve cards in the deck (3 per player) face-down into a kitty before dealing the rest of the cards. These cards are won by the player who takes the last trick. If this occurs as a Late Reveal, each player selects three cards at random from the player on his left to put in the kitty. If it also occurs alongside Open-Face, select the three random cards only from the players’ non-visible cards.
Super 1 – Super Short Change: Same as Short Change, but with twenty-four cards (6 per player). If a Late Reveal turns a Standard 1 into a Super 1, only put the additional three cards per player into the kitty (again, selected randomly), not six.
2
Standard 2 – Open-Face: Deal the last five cards per player face-up. These are still part of the players’ hands, and remain face-up until played. If played as a Late Reveal, each player chooses five cards at random from his left neighbor to be shown face-up; if both this and Short Change occur from a Late Reveal, select the Short Change cards first, then the Open-Face ones from the remaining hands. If this occurs with Toss-Out or Partner Pass, any face-up cards chosen to toss out or pass should remain face-up at all times. Blind bids can still be made with this Sauce active, even though some of the cards are necessarily visible; the player must not look at the rest of his cards until the bidding is over.
Super 2 – Total Open-Face: All cards are dealt face-up, and remain as such until played. No Blind bids can be made with this Sauce active unless it occurs due to a Late Reveal.
3
Standard 3 – Toss-Out: Before bidding begins, all players place three cards from their hands face-down on the table. Once all players have chosen their cards, the cards are put face-up into a kitty, such that it is clear who tossed out which cards. The player who takes the last trick wins all the cards in the kitty. If a player intends to bid Blind, he can choose the three cards to toss out without looking at his hand.
Super 3 – Super Toss-Out: Same as Toss-Out, but each player chooses six cards. If a Late Reveal turns a Standard 3 into a Super 3, each player should only toss out the additional three cards, not six.
4
Standard 4 – Partner Pass: Before bidding begins, each player passes three cards to his partner. If this and Toss-Out occur together, all players toss out before the passing begins. If a player intends to bid Blind, he can choose the three cards to pass without looking at his hand.
Super 4 – Great Exchange: Before bidding begins, each player passes two cards to every other player. If a Late Reveal turns a Standard 4 into a Super 4, each player passes three more cards to their partner instead. If a player intends to bid Blind, he can choose the three cards to pass without looking at his hand.
5
Standard 5 – Bright Blues: The low suit’s cards are worth 10 points, and the high suit’s cards worth 0 points. Trump status and the playing of the first hand is unchanged.
Super 5 – Shimmering Blues: The low suit (blue)’s cards are worth 30 points apiece, and no other cards are worth any points. Play starts with the lowest green cards instead of the lowest blue cards, and blue cards cannot be led until “broken”, like trumps. Purple is still the high/trump suit, and the standard rules regarding leading with them still apply.
6
Standard 6 – Trump Shift: The suit of the Sauce is made the high/trump suit, and the suit with next highest priority is made the low suit, with scoring changing accordingly. If the 6 is purple, the suits are unchanged, and the Sauce acts as Dealer’s Choice instead.
Super 6 – Sixes High: The rank order changes from 1, 2, 3, … 10 to (low) 7, 8, 9, 10, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (high). The high and low suits remain unchanged, unlike Trump Shift. If a Reverse Rank occurs when this Sauce is in effect, the rank order becomes (low) 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 10, 9, 8, 7 (high).
7
Standard 7 – No Trumps: The high suit does not trump; scoring is unchanged. However, the high suit can be led at any time after the first trick.
Super 7 – All Trumps: Any card played out of suit counts as a trump card. If multiple “trumps” are played, higher ranks trump lower ones, and the suit priority breaks ties. As in No Trumps, the high suit can be led at any time after the first trick.
8
Standard 8 – No-Bid Round: No bids are made at the beginning of the round. Scoring is determined by simply adding the points taken.
Super 8 – Negative No-Bid Round: Same as No-Bid Round, but points taken are subtracted from the players’ scores instead of added.
With both of the above rules, if the players agree beforehand, then a player taking no tricks earns the score for a positive “Nope!” bid.
9
Standard 9 – Late Reveal: Before dealing the non-Sauce cards, place this card in the middle of the deck, and use the bottom card in the deck as a replacement Sauce card. However, do not turn the card over or follow its rules until bidding is complete. If it turns out that the bottom card is also a 9, the Sauce acts as Dealer’s Choice instead.
Super 9 – Surprise Sauce: Same as Late Reveal, but with two cards. Note that a 9 and 10 make a Surprise Sauce, rather than doubling the effect of whatever is chosen for the Late Reveal’s Sauce.
10
Standard 10 – Double Sauce: If paired with another Sauce, it replaces its effects with its respective Super Sauce’s effects. If this Sauce is alone, it acts as Dealer’s Choice instead.
Super 10 – Double Dealer’s Choice: The Dealer chooses any Super Sauce or combination of two Standard Sauces he wishes before dealing the rest of the cards.
SAUCE
Standard SAUCE – Dealer’s Choice: The Dealer chooses any Standard Sauce before dealing the rest of the cards. If this occurs alongside another Sauce, he may also choose to replace its effects with its respective Super Sauce.
Super SAUCE – Double Dealer’s Choice: The Dealer chooses any Super Sauce or combination of two Standard Sauces he wishes before dealing the rest of the cards.
